I personally just love Hack n’ Slash games so much, especially Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, and God of War. So those titles had big effect on our game design.
Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is the first game from ZENITH BLUE. With a goal in mind, and a strong desire within themselves, the members of ZENITH BLUE teamed together to bring a game that they dreamed of showing to the world.
This game was originated from our desire to play a Hack n’ Slash game with the theme of “high school girl + Katana”.
Even though Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae started on PC, ZENITH BLUE had always had the goal of bringing the game to console. After releasing Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae on PC, the feedback from all over the world was so strong, that both encouraging words and criticism became the fuel to drive them forwards to bring Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae to more platforms.
We are the generation from console games, so it was definitely a goal to release our game for one of the home arcades.
But bringing Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is just the first step in the long-term desire of ZENITH BLUE. Bringing an action game that is well loved by people is just the start of reintroducing the passion of Action games to gamers again.
I was a high school student when I started playing PS2 games, and I was strictly playing action games. At that time, we had countless choices of action games so I was playing almost everything. However, these days I don’t see many action games like that around. Maybe it is due to the era or the user’s demand, but it just makes me sad.
With Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae now reaching overseas consoles as well, the desire to bring the love of action games has been growing ever bigger.
We’ll be very glad if it can help Japanese consumers to revive action games’ popularity to how it was before.
