At the Aniplex of America industry panel at Otakon 2017 in Washington, D.C., fans were treated to the announcement of “Does Moon Goddess Dream of Dumplings?,” which is the newest in-game event for a wildly popular mobile game Fate/Grand Order. The in-game event runs from August 17 to 24, and features a brand-new story written by Fate series creator Kinoko Nasu and the introduction of the Moon Goddess, a limited time 5-star Heroic Spirit of the Archer class. An array of in-game gifts is currently being offered in celebration of the three-day convention at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Released in June of this year, the game is currently available in North America on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The in-game event coincides with the Moon Festival known as tsukimi, which is a tradition that dates back to the Heian period (circa 794-1185) in Japan. During the event, players will be tasked to solve the mystery surrounding an enigmatic Heroic Spirit who appears on the night of the Moon Festival:
Tonight’s the Moon Festival: a time when people gaze at the moon
and give thanks to the Moon Goddess.
To celebrate, Chaldea has prepared its own mini Moon Festival.
As such, we’ve been making lots and lots of nice dump…lings…
Wait, where are the dumplings?!
Players will also have a limited time opportunity to summon a brand-new Heroic Spirit, Orion, who is a character exclusive to Fate/Grand Order within the Fate series. Event limited rewards available for summoning include new Craft Essences Moon Goddess’ Bath («5 SSR), Moony Jewel («4 SR), and Mooncell Automation («3 R). The Event Limited Craft Essence Moonlight Fest («5 SSR) will also be available only through playing the quests.
The game also launched a Facebook challenge where players will be rewarded three Saint Quartz if the post regarding the in-game event on the official Fate/Grand Order Facebook page gains more than 2,000 likes. Additionally, log-in gifts, including Summon Tickets, Hero Crystals of Star Fou and Sun Fou, Blaze of Wisdom (ALL), and 1,000,000 QPs, are being offered from August 11th to the 13th to celebrate Otakon 2017.
One of the most successful mobile role-playing games ever in Asia, Fate/Grand Order has players summon powerful allies or Heroic Spirits, who are based on popular historical, literary, and mythological figures such as Joan of Arc, William Shakespeare, Spartacus, and Mozart. The game takes players back through history to embark on an epic quest to retrieve the Holy Grail known as Grand Order. The mobile game has been called “the most addicting game I’ve played on my phone” by David Estrella of Ani-gamers and the “otaku event of the summer” by Gabriella Ekens of Anime News Networks. Last month, the official Apple App Store Games Twitter account tweeted, “We were curious why Fate/Grand Order was so popular. Now we can’t stop playing it.”
Further details of the North American version will be released regularly on the official website (http://fate-go.us), Facebook (@FateGO.USA), and Twitter (@FateGO_USA).
